    Do you communiate in English during the camp?

    Generally staff members will communicate in English during the camp. However bilingual staffs are available all the time and they may explain in Japanese to children understanding and acting on potential risks and how to avoid those risks. We DON’T force children to communicate each other in English.

    How are English level of other campers?

    There are children who can’t communicate in English. Bilingual staffs can support if necessary.

    I understand that campers will be split into groups according to their English level. Is it possible for us to request a group that my child join?

    Group will be decided by staff members. These groups may be regrouped according to their age and physical strength during the activity.

    Is my child possible to attend the camp even doesn't understand English or Japanese?

    Nationality is not a issue to attend the camp, but ability to communicate in English or Japanese is a must for safety reasons.

    Are there many children attending alone?

    80% of children are attending alone. We try our best to create best conditions for your children to feel comfortable and enjoy the camp.

    What is the ratio of the staff and campers?

    There will be at least 6 camp leaders and supporters to take care of maximum 30 children per session.

    My child has never stayed away from parents and worried about his ability to use the toilet and take a bath. Will the staff be able to provide a support?

    We always ask children to go to toilet before and after every activity. We generally let children to take a bath themselves, but staff can support if necessary. We advice children to support each other to learn work as a group or responsibility to look after younger children by older children.

    What age group of children are attending the most?

    Statistics from last year, the largest number were lower grades of elementary school, followed by the middle and upper grades, and junior high school students.

    When is the application deadline?

    Deadline is 2 weeks before the session starts, but the capacity may be reached full at anytime.

    Which credit card can we use?

    Payment can be made by following credit card: Visa, Mastercard, JC, American Express, Diners, Discover.

    Can you put me on the waiting list if the session is full?

    We don’t have a waiting list for any sessions reached full capacity, but we will open the booking if there is a cancellation.

    Please tell me the cancellation policy?

    before 22 days: 5000 Yen (administrative fee)
    21~15 days: 10%
    14~8 days: 20%
    7~2 days: 30%
    1 day: 50%
    on the day / no show: 100%

    Where are the drop off and pick up locations?

    Joetsu Myoko Station or Tokyo Station
    Please use round trip carrier service to send luggages other than single backpack directly to the accommodation for children meeting at Tokyo Station.

    Is it possible to attend the camp from locations other than the specified locations?

    No problem, please bring your child or they will need to come by themselves to Joetsu Myoko Station.

    How is friend discount work? Is it 10% discount per referral or additional discount according to the number of referrals?

    You can have a maximum discount of 10%.
    The discount for your friend’s child will also be 10%.

    Can I use more than one discounts?

    Discounts can’t be used together.

    What is the returner's discount?

    It is a discount applies to those who have previously participated in our Summer Camp in the past.

    Can my child use washing machine during the camp?

    They can’t use washing machine. However English Explorer T-shirts worn during the camp will be washed by staff members everyday. Please prepare enough underwear and socks for the days your child will be staying.

    How much pocket money should I give to my child? (Is it possible to purchase a drink by vending machine?)

    There’s no vending machines at the accommodation. Children usually bring around 3,000 Yen buying souvenir on one of the camp day. This is the only time that they can use pocket money.

    Is it okay to let my child bring snacks?

    Please don’t bring any snacks to the accommodation. There may be some participants have allergies, so we will prepare and provide snacks.

    What is the accommodation (Buna House) like?

    We have our own accommodation called “Buna House”.
    The building used to owned by former Post Office Group.

    What if my child get home sick?

    There were children felt homesick, but we tried our best supporting and encouraging them to have a great time with other children and staff members.

    Can friends, brothers, sisters be staying in the same room?

    Room allocation will be done by us.
    Even though it may be an unfamiliar environment, we support everyone to encourage interaction between children, help them settle in quickly, and enjoy camping with new friends.

    Do you have WiFi in the accommodation?

    We have WiFi in the accommodation, but all devices are kept in the safety box and not allowed to use during the camp. A staff will get in touch with parents if necessary.

    How will you respond if my child get injured or become ill during the camp?

    All leaders and some supporters have WAFA qualification and they know how to respond to minor injuries using first aid kit during activities. We will immediately contact hospitals/clinics in case we can not respond on site. We DON’T force children to attend activities. They can decide not to do or just watching any activities.
